Special Torah Scroll Dedicated at Prime Minister's Residence

Kikar HaShabbatReligious
Translated & summarized from Kikar HaShabbat by baba
The story · English

A special Torah scroll was dedicated at the Prime Minister's Residence in the Beit Vagan neighborhood of Jerusalem ahead of the High Holy Days. The scroll was designed to resemble the white kittel, a garment worn by many during the High Holy Days, which Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the late spiritual leader of the Shas party, used to wear. Engraved on the scroll are the names of the Torah centers established by Rabbi Yosef.

The dedication ceremony was attended by Rabbi Yosef's son, Rabbi David Yosef, a prominent Sephardic rabbi and member of the Shas party's council of rabbis. The scroll was donated by philanthropist Victor Kaimo. The event took place at the Prime Minister's Residence, which serves as the official dwelling for the sitting prime minister.
