U.S. President Donald Trump said he told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to handle Lebanon more carefully. Speaking at a press conference, Trump also argued that an Obama-era agreement would have destroyed Israel if he had not stopped it.
Trump claimed the deal would have left Israel destroyed and destabilized the broader region. “Israel was going to be destroyed and the whole Middle East was going to be destroyed,” he said, adding that Iran had been bombing the area and “they intended to bring down the entire Middle East.”
He also issued a fresh warning tied to negotiations, saying, “If we do not reach agreements within 60 days, we will go back to bombing.” The remarks did not specify which talks he meant or who would be involved, but they linked his warning to his broader criticism of past U.S. policy and the current situation involving Lebanon.
