AI Giant Anthropic Abandons $6 Billion Deal for Israeli Startup Decart

American AI firm Anthropic, known for its Claude language model, has reportedly called off its planned acquisition of Israeli startup Decart AI. The deal, which sources told Bloomberg was valued at approximately $6 billion, collapsed after Anthropic completed its due diligence process. Decart, founded in 2023 by Moshe Shilo and siblings Dean and Oriyan Leitersdorf, specializes in technology designed to optimize chip performance for AI systems. Their solution aims to maximize existing hardware efficiency, significantly reducing costs associated with training AI models.

Anthropic, facing substantial computing power demands and seeking infrastructure solutions, had identified significant potential in Decart's technology. Despite this, and although Anthropic typically avoids acquisitions of this magnitude, the company ultimately decided not to finalize the agreement. This development occurs as Anthropic is preparing for a major initial public offering (IPO), aiming to raise substantial capital that could rival SpaceX's funding rounds.

Despite the deal's collapse, sources familiar with the matter indicated to Bloomberg that future collaboration between the two companies remains a possibility, with the door not entirely closed. Representatives for both Anthropic and Decart declined to comment on the reports.
