Omri Gandelman Rejects MLS Move, Stays to Fight for Spezia Starting Spot
Israeli midfielder Omri Gandelman has turned down a significant offer from a Major League Soccer (MLS) club, opting instead to remain with his Italian team, Spezia. Gandelman intends to compete for a regular place in the starting lineup, despite playing only one minute in the first two matches of the current season.
Despite the limited playing time, the 23-year-old midfielder, who also represents the Israeli national team, believes in his ability to secure a position in the starting eleven of a club in one of Europe's top five leagues. Spezia acquired Gandelman last January for €3 million.
Gandelman, who developed in the Maccabi Netanya youth system, moved to Europe in the summer of 2023. Before joining Spezia, he played for Gent in Belgium, where he made 107 appearances, scoring 33 goals and providing 14 assists. Last season in Italy, he played 19 games, scoring two goals and adding one assist.
