Panathinaikos to Host 7 of First 8 EuroLeague Games Due to Olympiacos' Arena Issues
Panathinaikos is set to begin the upcoming EuroLeague season with an unusually high number of home games, playing seven out of their first eight matches at home in the OAKA arena. This scheduling advantage stems from a request made by fellow Greek team Olympiacos, which was approved by the EuroLeague.
Olympiacos will play a majority of their early season games on the road due to renovations at their Peace and Friendship Stadium. To avoid a situation where both Greek teams would be hosting games consecutively, the EuroLeague and its broadcast partner Nova adjusted the schedule. This adjustment benefits Panathinaikos with a concentrated home stand while forcing Olympiacos to play extensively away from home during the initial months of the season.
As a result of these scheduling changes, Panathinaikos will host teams including Paris, Villeurbanne, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Fenerbahce, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Baskonia, and Milan in their first eight games. Olympiacos, conversely, will face a challenging road schedule, playing away against teams like Baskonia, Zalgiris, Virtus Bologna, Valencia, and Barcelona, with only two home games against Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahce in their first eight fixtures. Olympiacos will use AEK Athens' arena for their initial home games.
