Olympiacos defeats Panathinaikos to retain Greek title
Olympiacos completed a major double on Saturday night, following its EuroLeague crown with an 89-85 win over Panathinaikos in Game 5 of the Greek league finals to claim a second straight championship.
The red-and-white side took control early, building a double-digit lead in the first quarter. Sasha Vezenkov sparked a strong run in the second quarter to stretch the advantage to 12 points, and Olympiacos then surged again at the start of the third quarter to open a 20-point lead, its biggest of the game.
Panathinaikos fought back behind Kendrick Nunn, who led a run that brought the green team back into contention and cut the deficit sharply. In the fourth quarter, Panathinaikos trimmed the gap to four points, but the comeback came too late.
Evan Fournier led Olympiacos with 22 points, while Vezenkov added 19. On the other side, Panathinaikos was paced by Vasilios Toliopoulos, who finished with 21 points.
