IDF Reports Clashes in Lebanon, Hamas Commander Eliminated in Gaza
The Israeli military (IDF) reported an exchange of fire in southern Lebanon on Monday when a Hezbollah operative opened fire on an IDF patrol in the Bafour area. Two soldiers sustained light injuries and were evacuated to a hospital. The IDF stated that in response, they eliminated the Hezbollah operative and subsequently struck Hezbollah weapons depots, headquarters, and other terrorist infrastructure in the region.
Separately, the IDF announced the elimination of Yousef Akila, a commander in Hamas's "Nukhba" unit, on Sunday. The army stated that Akila was preparing military attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians, posing a threat that necessitated his elimination. The IDF emphasized that measures were taken to minimize civilian harm before the strike, including the use of precision-guided munitions and aerial surveillance.
In a related incident, Israeli shelling in the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon reportedly struck a journalist and cameraman from the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar news channel while they were preparing for a live broadcast. Video footage circulating on social media appears to show the moment of the explosion near the journalists.
