Thousands of Israeli Youth Attend Emotional Selichot Event in Jerusalem

Approximately 4,000 teenagers from state schools across Israel gathered at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem for an annual Selichot (penitential prayers) event organized by the Jerusalem Municipality and the Chabad City Israel youth organization. The event, held in anticipation of Rosh Hashanah, featured a musical performance, educational activities, and a moving recitation of Selichot led by Rabbi Yigal Cohen.

The evening began with an interactive 'happening' in the lobby and halls of the convention center, focusing on the High Holidays of Tishrei. This segment aimed to educate the youth about the holidays in an engaging and contemporary manner.

The main performance included artists like Ahava Hashem Gordon, Nadav Hantzis, Maor Edri, and Noam Buskila, who performed Selichot and traditional songs accompanied by dancers. The highlight was the communal recitation of Selichot, including the 'Shema Yisrael' prayer, led by Rabbi Yigal Cohen, with a live broadcast from the Western Wall displayed on large screens.

During the event, Ahava Hashem Gordon shared personal struggles on his path to success, including his decision to proudly represent his Jewish identity on stage. Attendees received a prayer book and an informational pamphlet about the High Holidays to carry the spirit of the event into the upcoming festivals.
