Charity Fundraiser Aims to Grant NIS 1,000 Holiday Stipends to 1,000 Torah Scholars

The 'Torato Omanuto' fund, based in Jerusalem's Rosh Pina institutions, has launched a special fundraising campaign to provide holiday stipends to 1,000 Torah scholars, known as 'avreichim'. The campaign aims to raise NIS 1 million, with each scholar receiving a NIS 1,000 check to help with holiday expenses. The funds will be distributed at a special event on Thursday, the eve of Rosh Hashanah, at the Rosh Pina institutions in Jerusalem.

Eligibility for the stipends is limited to avreichim who dedicate themselves to studying Torah for at least three sessions daily, have three or more children, and have no other source of income. A rigorous screening process has identified 1,000 eligible recipients from thousands of applicants who cited difficult financial circumstances, exacerbated by recent decrees impacting the world of Torah study.

The event will feature prominent rabbis, including Rabbi Nissim Deri, who will deliver a preparatory talk for the Day of Judgment, along with other leading figures offering words of encouragement. This initiative follows a previous distribution of NIS 1,000 stipends to hundreds of avreichim for the recent 'bein hazmanim' (intermediate holiday period) break, continuing the Rosh Pina institutions' commitment to supporting Torah scholars facing financial hardship.

The campaign's slogan, 'As they are afflicted, so shall they multiply and increase,' reflects a message of divine encouragement amidst hardship. The Rosh Pina institutions are appealing to the public worldwide to contribute to funding these stipends, enabling participation in supporting a scholar with a NIS 1,000 grant.
