Kiryat Ono Launches Major $5 Million Street Renovation Project
Kiryat Ono is embarking on a significant urban renewal project to revitalize a key area of the city. Starting Sunday, September 6, 2026, the municipality and the Kiryat Ono Development Company will commence a comprehensive renovation of Shlomo HaMelech Street, near the city's mall. The project, with an investment of approximately 5 million shekels, is expected to take three months to complete.
The initiative addresses long-standing issues in the area, including dilapidated sidewalks, accessibility problems, and a neglected appearance, which have drawn numerous complaints from residents, visitors, and local business owners. The renovation aims to create a more pleasant, accessible, and safe public space.
Key improvements will include replacing old paving with new, wider sidewalks to enhance pedestrian safety and comfort. Accessibility arrangements will be significantly improved. The project also involves widening the median between traffic lanes, removing existing fencing, and installing new landscaping with trees and modern street furniture. Road resurfacing will be carried out in later stages.
Kiryat Ono Mayor Michal Rosenzweig stated that the Shlomo HaMelech Street and mall area is a central location she committed to improving. She emphasized that the project represents a substantial investment to create a better environment for the community, moving beyond superficial fixes to implement a thorough overhaul.
City Manager Sharon Keran described the project as one of the municipality's most complex and sensitive undertakings due to its location in a busy commercial hub. He assured that extensive planning and coordination were done to minimize disruption to daily life while achieving a deep transformation of the public space. The municipality will provide ongoing updates on traffic and parking changes.
Adi Goldstein, CEO of the Kiryat Ono Economic Company, highlighted that the company will manage the project with a strict focus on quality and coordination. She stressed that this is not a minor cosmetic update but the creation of an entirely new public space designed to significantly enhance the experience for pedestrians, drivers, and businesses.
Due to the project's complexity, temporary changes to traffic and parking arrangements, along with localized closures, are anticipated. One traffic lane near the mall's restaurants will be reduced starting immediately. The municipality urges drivers and residents to prepare for potential traffic congestion, follow signage, and exercise patience during the construction period.
