IDF Chief of Staff Warns Enemies of Severe Retaliation

Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir issued a stern warning to Israel's adversaries during a surprise military exercise, "Alot Hashahar 2.0," conducted in preparation for the Jewish holidays. Zamir stated, "The message is clear: whoever tries to harm the State of Israel and its citizens will encounter a determined, prepared, and alert army, and will immediately pay a very heavy price." He emphasized that the exercise itself serves as a message to opponents, asserting that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are operational, prepared, and vigilant to defend the country, and ready to take the initiative to strike those who attempt to harm them.

Zamir visited the National Ground Training Center accompanied by senior officers, including the head of the Operations Directorate, Itzik Cohen, the commander of the Southern Front, Yaniv Asor, and commanders of the 98th and 143rd divisions. The exercise simulated a large-scale, complex, multi-front surprise attack, testing the forces' ability to respond. It involved the mobilization of alert units and reserves, and evaluated decision-making processes and operational responses across all command levels.

"We are assessing the forces' readiness and demanding the highest standards at all echelons, from the deployed soldier to the chief of staff, through the command centers," Zamir said. The simulation is part of an ongoing effort to enhance IDF capabilities and incorporate lessons learned from the October 7th attacks and subsequent fighting on various fronts. "We are changing, correcting, and strengthening everything that needs to be done to be better prepared for any scenario," the chief of staff added, noting the exercise's focus on validating operational plans and the IDF's immediate response capacity in the event of a surprise war.
