Trooper Joins Gantz's Party, Ending Alliance with Hendel

Member of Knesset Chili Tropper's party, 'Datiim Leumiim' (National Religious), is set to dissolve, with Tropper himself expected to join the list of Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the 'Yashar!' party. This move reportedly includes reserved spots on Eisenkot's list for other figures from Tropper's party, with Shira Shapira and Elissaf Peretz slated for prominent positions. Eisenkot is scheduled to unveil his updated list on Monday.

The political realignment marks the end of the partnership between Tropper and Yoaz Hendel, who co-founded 'Datiim Leumiim' as a party for reservists. Hendel, left out of the agreement with Eisenkot, is now exploring a potential joint run with Benny Gantz. Ayelet Shaked is expected to decide on Sunday whether to join this potential alliance.

This development significantly reduces the likelihood of a political merger between Eisenkot and Naftali Bennett, leader of the 'Be'ad' party. Bennett has been actively strengthening his list, recently adding MK Eitan Ginzburg, Matti Gil, and Nissan Zvi.

Tropper, who previously stated he would not serve under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has made a mandatory conscription law for all a prerequisite for any future coalition. He has also expressed opposition to Hendel's proposed bill to revoke voting rights for those who do not serve, favoring economic sanctions instead.

Meanwhile, Eisenkot is facing public scrutiny following his revelations about the January 10, 2018, incident where an F-16 fighter jet was shot down. Eisenkot claimed at a conference that he had to make critical decisions without the Prime Minister, whom he could not locate for two hours.

In a joint statement, Tropper and Hendel emphasized their long-standing friendship and shared ideological views, despite their political paths diverging. They affirmed their commitment to serving the country and fostering internal cohesion, expressing confidence in their continued collaboration and friendship.
