West Bank Schools Open for 846,000 Students Amid Gaza Preparations

Approximately 846,000 students began the 2026-2027 academic year in the West Bank on Sunday. These students are enrolled in 2,537 government, private, and UNRWA schools, with instruction provided by around 54,000 teachers.

In the Gaza Strip, administrative and teaching staff will commence their duties on September 16, with students returning to classes on September 19. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is preparing approximately 700 physical learning sites and 25 temporary schools. Virtual learning will continue for students unable to attend in person, aiming to support the education of about 541,000 students within available resources.

Of the 846,000 students in the West Bank, 634,294 attend 1,967 government schools. Private schools host 163,787 students in 480 institutions, while 48,208 students are enrolled in 90 UNRWA schools. The teaching staff comprises 40,747 in government schools, 11,578 in private schools, and 1,871 in UNRWA schools, totaling 54,196 educators.
