Border Police Soldier Killed by Forces in Netanya After Opening Fire

Sergeant David Hoyer Amrani, a Border Police combatant serving in the regular service, was killed by security forces in Netanya on Saturday night after he opened fire with a long rifle in the city's streets. The circumstances leading to his actions, including firing at responding officers, are under investigation. No other casualties were reported.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the 20-year-old soldier, armed with a rifle and carrying a plastic chair, walking through a neighborhood. The footage then depicts his encounter with security forces, who opened fire to neutralize him, resulting in his death.

Hoyer Amrani, who was 20 years old, enlisted in the Border Police in August 2024. He completed his training and was assigned to serve in Hebron within the Judea and Samaria (IOSh) Border Police. Approximately eight months prior to his death, he transferred to Company Lamed Tet of the IOSh Border Police.

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir expressed condolences to the family, stating that the Ministry of National Security, the Israel Police, and the Border Police would continue to support them. Eyewitnesses at the scene initially believed the incident involved terrorists due to the shouts and gunfire.
