Border Guard Officer Killed in Netanya Incident After Firing at Police

Border Guard Sergeant-Second Class David Hoyer Amrani, a 20-year-old resident of Netanya, was killed on Saturday following a highly unusual incident in the city. Hoyer caused alarm as he walked through Netanya's streets carrying a long rifle. He subsequently fired at a police force, which returned fire and neutralized him. He succumbed to his wounds shortly thereafter. No other injuries were reported.

Footage from the scene showed Hoyer carrying the weapon in the city streets. Large forces from the Central District operated in and around the area near Kiryat Sharon. Central District Commander, Superintendent Amir Cohen, also arrived at the scene.

Hoyer had enlisted for mandatory service in the Border Guard in August 2024. After completing his training, he was assigned to serve in Hebron within the Judea and Samaria Border Guard. Approximately eight months ago, he transferred to serve in Company Lamed Tet of the Judea and Samaria Border Guard. He is survived by his parents and two siblings. His family has been notified, and the Israel Police and Border Guard expressed their condolences and commitment to supporting the family.
