Israel Strikes South Lebanon Amid Surprise Military Drill

Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes in southern Lebanon early Sunday, targeting areas including the towns of Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kfar Roummane, and the Sisters' neighborhood in Nabatieh city. Lebanese media reported that a three-story residential building was destroyed in the Nabatieh city strike. Israeli artillery also shelled the Douha Kfar Roummane area near Nabatieh, while Israeli aircraft continued reconnaissance flights over the region.

The Israeli military stated the strikes were a response to Hezbollah launching two drones toward its forces in the occupied security zone in southern Lebanon. The IDF reported intercepting one drone and stated no soldiers were injured. The military described the drone launches as a "blatant violation" and announced retaliatory strikes in southern Lebanon.

Concurrently, the Israeli military announced a surprise, high-level exercise simulating a multi-front event. The drill, involving general staff, aims to test the readiness of forces and command in handling simultaneous security scenarios. Reserve forces were mobilized as part of the exercise to assess coordination and preparedness for widespread conflict.

These events occur amid heightened tensions along the Israeli-Lebanese border, characterized by ongoing exchanges of fire and threats between the Israeli military and Hezbollah. The Israeli military has increased its readiness for multi-front security scenarios.
