Yizhar Ashdot Reflects on 41-Year Marriage, New Album, and National Discontent

Musician and producer Yizhar Ashdot, in a candid interview, shared insights into his life and career, highlighting his 41.5-year relationship with his wife, Alona Kamhi, as his greatest achievement. He also cited his ability to sustain a career in music and support his family for so many years as a significant accomplishment.

Ashdot is currently working on his first album in eight years, with a collection of songs nearing completion. He continues to perform solo and with his band, Teapacks, which he described as a near full-time job during the summer. He also revealed a personal quirk of almost exclusively wearing black, a habit his wife is slowly helping him change.

Reflecting on his career, Ashdot recalled his parents' initial concerns about his chosen profession, but his mother's advice to pursue stability only strengthened his resolve to remain an independent musician. He expressed a longing for the past, not for specific periods, but for a feeling of pride in Israel as a liberal civil society, a sentiment he feels is currently lacking.

He also touched upon his fears of aging and the finite nature of life, preferring to push away such thoughts. Despite these anxieties, Ashdot finds happiness in simple moments, like road trips with his bandmates. He also mentioned his desire to be mobile, enjoying his Tel Aviv apartment but also appreciating his escape apartment in Athens.

Ashdot's creative influences range from guitar heroes like Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page to producers such as George Martin. He also acknowledged his analytical side, suggesting he might have pursued a career in precise sciences if not for music.
