Top Hamas Security Chief Captured in Gaza, Becomes Intelligence Asset

Israeli security officials have described the captured head of Hamas's internal security apparatus, Mu'ein al-Arabeed, as an "intelligence treasure." Early interrogations reveal al-Arabeed is cooperating and providing significant information regarding the organization's weapons caches, personnel, and terror infrastructure, according to Channel 12 News.

Al-Arabeed was responsible for Hamas's force-building efforts, attempts to restore governance in Gaza, and was involved in terror operations and deception concerning the demilitarization of the Strip. His capture was the result of a joint operation by the Southern Command and the Shin Bet, involving a special forces unit that raided his location disguised in a commercial vehicle while the Air Force provided cover by attacking nearby threats.

The dramatic arrest has reportedly caused shock and a sense of persecution among Hamas commanders, who fear further attacks and have consequently increased their defensive readiness. In response, the IDF has raised its alert level along the border, anticipating a potential reaction from the terror group.

Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat previously reported, citing Gaza sources, that the Israeli force had prepared for the operation for several days, conducting preliminary reconnaissance. One source suggested a vehicle damaged during the event belonged to the Israeli force, was left behind, and later destroyed during their withdrawal. Another source claimed the destroyed vehicle was not present during the operation's arrival, implying it had been positioned days earlier for intelligence gathering.
