Avi Issacharoff, co-creator of the Israeli television series "Fauda," has strongly criticized American actor Mark Ruffalo for his statements regarding the Israel-Hamas war and repeated accusations of "genocide" in Gaza. Issacharoff, speaking in London, called Ruffalo "ignorant" and "stupid," stating he possesses a rare combination of both. Issacharoff challenged Ruffalo's claims about Israel's intentions to eliminate Palestinians, pointing out that Israel facilitates hundreds of aid trucks entering Gaza daily, which he argued contradicts accusations of intent to destroy the population.
The controversy intensified after Ruffalo posted on Instagram, accusing a Jewish board member of Paramount of "enjoying" the events in Gaza. Paramount labeled the post as antisemitic, a charge Ruffalo denied, calling it "outrageous and fundamentally dishonest." Over 170 Jewish cultural figures, including Joel Coen and Hannah Einbinder, have defended Ruffalo.
Issacharoff expressed that he doesn't expect to change his opponents' minds quickly but hopes that over time, people will gain a better understanding of the situation and resist succumbing to "slogans, propaganda clichés, and lies."
