Police Raid Nazareth Amid Gang Violence, Seize Weapons

Israeli police and Border Guard forces intensified their presence in Nazareth following a surge in shooting incidents and violence between criminal gangs. The operation, conducted overnight, resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects and the seizure of a handgun, a grenade, and other weapons. Police stated that dozens of officers participated in the extensive security operation, targeting locations believed to be associated with criminal gangs. Some suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended after foot pursuits.

The intensified activity comes in response to escalating violence linked to a conflict between local criminal organizations. The seized weapons are intended to prevent their use in ongoing gang disputes. Police did not provide further details on the types of weapons or their intended owners.

This operation followed a previous night's security action that led to the arrest of over 20 suspects, including the brother of a murder victim. A court extended the detention of those arrested until August 6, 2026.

Israeli police emphasized their increased efforts in Nazareth over the past year, claiming to have arrested and imprisoned leaders of the local "Bakri" crime organization. They vowed to confront internal gang conflicts with "force, determination, and relentlessly" to ensure public safety and security in the city, pledging continued operations to apprehend suspects and prosecute offenders.
