Police Reinforce Nazareth After Four Murders in 24 Hours

Following a deadly 24-hour period in which four people were murdered in Nazareth, Israeli police announced an increased security presence in the northern city on Friday. Dozens of officers and Border Police officers operated in Nazareth overnight, arresting ten suspects and seizing a pistol, a fragmentation grenade, and various other weapons. Police targeted compounds belonging to criminal gangs, with some suspects attempting to flee on foot before being apprehended. Over 20 suspects were arrested the previous night, including the brother of one of the murder victims, with their detention extended until Sunday. The police stated that they have intensified operations in Nazareth over the past year, leading to the imprisonment of leaders of the local "Bakri" crime family. They vowed to respond with "uncompromising force and determination" to internal gang conflicts to ensure public safety and will continue to pursue lawbreakers. The most recent victim, Mahmoud Handouli, a man in his 30s, was shot nine times after the killer posed as a delivery driver and knocked on his door. Paramedics attempted advanced resuscitation before transporting him to the hospital in critical condition. Two days prior, three individuals were killed within hours. Two men in their 30s were shot dead in their vehicle, and a 27-year-old resident was shot and killed in the Bir al-Amir neighborhood. Police are investigating the incidents, which are believed to be related to criminal activity.
