Global AI Outages Hit ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok Simultaneously

Several major global artificial intelligence services experienced widespread outages on Thursday, impacting users of OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and xAI's Grok. Downdetector, a user-reporting website, saw a significant surge in complaints for all three services. Google's Gemini also reported a slight increase in issues, though the company has not confirmed a broad service disruption.

The problems began around 6 p.m. Israel time, with users reporting error messages, interrupted responses, long wait times, and difficulties initiating or continuing conversations. OpenAI acknowledged a high error rate affecting ChatGPT and Codex, with issues extending to account logins, file uploads, web browsing, voice mode, image generation, and research tools. The company stated it had implemented a fix and was monitoring system recovery, but had not yet declared full resolution.

Anthropic reported disruptions across several Claude models, its website, developer interface, and Claude Code programming tool. The company identified the cause and deployed a fix, with some models returning to normal operation, though the service remains partially down. Similarly, xAI reported an outage affecting Grok across its website, applications, and developer interface, with some services still unavailable according to the company's status page.

As of Thursday evening, all companies had begun restoring services, but full resolution was not yet confirmed. It remains unclear whether the nearly simultaneous disruptions are interconnected or coincidental.
