Shopper Finds Entire Insect Embedded in Chicken Fillet Purchased at Rami Levy

A shopper in Kfar Saba, Little Barken, reported a disturbing discovery after purchasing chicken fillet from a Rami Levy supermarket to prepare schnitzel. After preparing half the package, she found what she described as a "tick" embedded entirely within one of the last pieces of chicken.

Barken stated the vacuum-sealed package had been in her freezer for three months since purchase. She expressed frustration with the "passing the buck" attitude from both Rami Levy and the producer, Corniche Chen Slaughterhouse (part of A-T Group). Rami Levy directed her to the slaughterhouse, which denied responsibility, claiming the insect's intact state, including its legs, suggested it wasn't present during the freezing process and therefore not a production or packaging issue.

Barken, who is pregnant, emphasized she specifically buys "mehadrin" (supervised) products for stricter oversight and was preparing the meal for her family, including a four-year-old and an infant. She recounted her gynecologist viewing the photos and expressing concern about potential harm to the fetus.

The Ministry of Health confirmed it received the complaint, classified as "foreign bodies," and is investigating. The ministry has forwarded the case to the Ministry of Agriculture, responsible for slaughterhouse oversight, and will also conduct an inspection of the Rami Levy branch to examine storage conditions. Neither Rami Levy nor A-T Group responded to N12's request for comment.
