Elderly Woman Without Power for Days Amid Water Leak Dispute

An approximately 90-year-old woman in Ramla has been without electricity in her home for several days after her power was cut off due to a water leak originating from her upstairs neighbor's apartment. The family claims the persistent moisture has infiltrated the building's electrical infrastructure, creating a risk of electrocution. The power was disconnected last Saturday, leaving the elderly woman, who suffers from diabetes, requires daily treatments and injections, and uses a walker, without essential appliances like a refrigerator and air conditioner during the hot summer days.

Her son expressed deep concern for his mother's well-being, stating, "My mother is a sick woman. She always tries to maintain her independence and not burden us, her seven children, but this situation is simply unbearable." He fears for her safety in the dark apartment, worrying she could fall and die, and is living in constant fear of an accident. He also criticized the temporary fixes attempted, saying, "The neighbor promised they would fix it, and on Sunday they came, did something small with the leak, but in practice the situation continues. The problem needs to be treated from the root, not with cosmetics."

The neighbor, however, stated that the issue is being handled and has never been neglected. "The matter is being treated, the matter has never been neglected. A plumber arrived and together with the insurance company they located the leak and are currently waiting for the matter to be resolved," she said. She also indicated that the building is slated for redevelopment, which might explain a preference for only localized repairs.

The son has sought help from various authorities, including the municipality and the deputy mayor, but has been advised to pursue legal action, which he believes is too slow given the immediate danger. "Why aren't they treating it and doing something in the meantime? I just want my mother to live with dignity," he pleaded. His siblings are assisting by bringing food and basic supplies to their mother's apartment, with the son lamenting the distressing conditions, "If you came to see her, you would cry. No person deserves to be in such a situation."
