Democrats Party Warns of 'Next Political Assassination' Amid Security Concerns for Golan

The Israeli Democrats party has released a video highlighting severe rhetoric directed against its leader, retired Major General Yair Golan, and has announced its intention to petition the High Court of Justice regarding the perceived neglect of his security.

The party's CEO, Omer Lubaton Granot, recently appealed to the Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg, urging him to order the head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) to provide security for Golan. This follows a decision by the police to raise Golan's threat level to a high rating of 4 out of 6.

A letter accompanying the appeal referenced harsh statements made by Prime Minister Netanyahu's wife, Sara Netanyahu, against Golan, along with explicit threats to his life. These threats included death wishes, derogatory labels such as 'Nazi' and 'traitor,' and direct calls for violence against him and his family.

The Democrats party criticized the decision by the Personal Security Committee to recommend security for another figure, Benny Gantz, while allegedly abandoning Golan. They asserted that this disparity reveals "distorted truth" and that political considerations are paramount. The party believes that providing security for Golan would be an official acknowledgment by the system that the incitement campaign led by Netanyahu and his associates poses a tangible threat to his life.

Lubaton Granot stated, "The responsibility for the security and life of Major General (Res.) Yair Golan rests with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Shin Bet Director David Barnea. If politics are not separated from the duty to protect human life, we will petition the High Court of Justice without delay, demanding they be compelled to do so before the next political assassination occurs."
