Feminist Book on Genocide Published Amid Gaza Conflict

Madar Al-Carmel, an Arab center for applied social research, and the Institute of Women's Studies at Birzeit University have announced the release of a new book titled "Genocide: A Palestinian Feminist Approach." The publication comes in the context of the ongoing "genocide and aggression" in the Gaza Strip and policies of "uprooting, displacement, and erasure" targeting Palestinians.

The book is edited by Amira Salmi, Himmat Zoubi, Lina Miari, Arin Hawari, and Rami Salameh. It adopts an anti-colonial Palestinian feminist perspective aimed at confronting what it describes as the "colonial killing machine" while highlighting the resistance embedded in the voices of Palestinian women.

This feminist approach seeks to find life in women's words, rejecting a singular, standardized representation of Palestinian women. The essays within the collection explore diverse experiences, including Palestinian women confronting genocide, writing, motherhood, displacement, exile, longing, and the failure of "humanitarian covenants," as well as the complicity and potential for victory within feminism.

The editors emphasize that this diversity and difference underscore a feminist approach that views multiplicity as the foundation for solidarity, transcending knowledge and political bases that demand uniformity. It promotes the idea of feeling and standing together.
