PayPal to Lay Off Dozens of Employees in Israel Amid Global Restructuring

PayPal is expected to conduct a wave of layoffs in Israel, affecting dozens of employees out of the approximately 300 working at the company's operational centers in the country. While the exact number of affected employees was not disclosed, PayPal confirmed the move is part of a broader global efficiency and restructuring plan.

"The changes in our workforce are part of a multi-year transformation process, which we have previously announced, aimed at simplifying our global operations and positioning the company for long-term growth," PayPal stated. "Decisions like these are not easy, and we are fully aware of their impact on our employees. We are committed to supporting them and providing full assistance during this period of change."

PayPal's presence in Israel has grown over the years, partly through the acquisition of local companies, notably Fraud Sciences in 2008 for about $169 million. The Israeli layoffs coincide with similar reductions in other countries, including the recent announcement of 164 job cuts in Ireland, representing nearly 12% of its permanent staff there, scheduled between October 7 and 21.

These efficiency measures come as PayPal faces increasing competition in the digital payments market from tech giants like Apple and Google, as well as new players such as Stripe. Recent reports also indicated that negotiations for a potential joint acquisition of PayPal, valued at approximately $53 billion and involving Stripe, concluded without an agreement.
