Cyber Unit Warns of Fake Ticket Ads Hijacking Phone Lines
Israel's National Cyber Directorate issued a public warning on Tuesday regarding fraudulent advertisements appearing on Facebook and Instagram. These ads impersonate well-known companies, offering free tickets or benefits for shows.
According to the warning, after a user provides their details, the attackers contact them and request an "authentication code" received via SMS. This code can then be used by the attackers to gain control of the victim's cellular service.
The Cyber Directorate advises the public to never provide authentication codes, even if the caller claims to be from a reputable company. Users should carefully read SMS messages before sharing any code and verify offers and tickets exclusively through official company channels.
Individuals who lose cellular service after providing a code are urged to immediately contact their mobile provider. The warning comes amid a rise in sophisticated online scams targeting Israelis.
