Thousands of Israelis Fall Victim to Social Media Ticket Scams
Israel's National Cyber Directorate has issued a warning regarding fraudulent advertisements on Facebook and Instagram. These scams impersonate well-known companies and offer free tickets or benefits for shows and events. The scheme involves tricking users into providing personal details, after which attackers contact them requesting an "authentication code" sent via SMS. This code, however, can be used to hijack the victim's mobile phone line.
The Cyber Directorate advises the public against sharing authentication codes, even if the caller claims to be a representative of a known company. Users are urged to carefully read SMS messages before providing any code and to verify offers and tickets exclusively through official company channels. If a user loses mobile reception after providing a code, they should immediately contact their cellular provider.
