Congolese President Visits Israel to Bolster Economic and Security Ties

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, arrived in Jerusalem on Monday for a state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic, and security relations with Israel. He met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with both leaders agreeing to enhance bilateral cooperation in economic and security matters. The Prime Minister's office stated that the two discussed deepening these partnerships.

Tshisekedi was also received by Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the presidential residence, accompanied by a large delegation. Following their discussions, which included press statements and a dinner attended by the foreign ministers of both nations, Herzog praised Kinshasa's support for Israel in international forums. He emphasized the strategic importance of their relationship and Israel's commitment to fostering stronger ties with African nations.

President Herzog pledged Israel's support for the DRC's humanitarian challenges and highlighted potential areas for cooperation in key development sectors. President Tshisekedi expressed his desire for a "modern, pragmatic, and mutually beneficial" partnership with Israel, focusing on agriculture, food security, water management, health, technology, innovation, security, and investment.

Both presidents also addressed pressing international and regional crises, as well as peace and security issues relevant to their respective countries. Tshisekedi articulated an ambition for a partnership measured by tangible results for both populations, not just signed agreements.
