Rahat Welcomes New School Year With 30,000 Students

The city of Rahat has begun the 2026-2027 academic year, welcoming approximately 30,000 students across its educational institutions, which are described as among the largest in the Arab community. Municipal preparations for the new year included extensive work on schools and kindergartens, alongside enhanced traffic safety measures.

Rahat's education system comprises 22 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 8 high schools, in addition to 3 special education schools and 2 technological education schools. The city also has around 238 kindergartens. The system employs about 2,780 teachers, 238 kindergarten teachers, and 450 kindergarten assistants.

Over the past two months, the municipality, in collaboration with its education department and various professional teams, undertook maintenance, renovation, and equipping of educational facilities to ensure a safe and suitable learning environment. Concurrently, the municipality announced traffic regulation measures around schools and kindergartens, in cooperation with the police, to ensure smooth traffic flow and student safety during drop-off and pick-up times.

A joint awareness campaign on road safety was launched by the Rahat Municipality, the National Road Safety Authority, and the Community Center. This campaign, which included placing directional signs near educational facilities, urged drivers to adhere to speed limits, reduce speed near schools, pay attention to pedestrians and children, and emphasized the importance of seatbelt use.

Rahat Mayor Talal Al-Qarinawi stated that child protection is a shared responsibility and called for caution from drivers and parents, especially near schools. He affirmed the municipality's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote safety culture. Fouad Al-Zayadenah, director of the Rahat Community Center, highlighted the center's role in fostering responsibility and safety awareness among residents.

Notably, the municipality reported an increase in women holding educational leadership positions, with 8 female principals currently leading schools in Rahat, indicating a growing female presence in administrative and leadership roles within the education sector. The municipality urged residents and drivers to cooperate with field teams and adhere to safety instructions during peak hours.
