Suspect Arrested in Intentional Poisoning of Baby Formula Case

The suspect in the intentional poisoning of "Prinuvox" baby formula has been identified as Yan Shamla, a man in his 40s from southern Israel. Shamla is suspected of multiple serious offenses, including deliberately poisoning infant food products, using poison to endanger lives, theft, and negligent handling of medications.

During a court hearing to extend his detention, Shamla's defense attorney claimed he suffers from manic depression. Consequently, Shamla was sent for an evaluation at the Eitanim Psychiatric Hospital, which concluded he is fit for detention. The court extended his arrest until Sunday as police continue dozens of investigative actions.

Investigators presented a video they claim links Shamla to the incident. A representative from the investigating unit stated, "We contend that the respondent is deliberately involved, and relatively close to the time of the poisoning incident." The court found that the investigation materials establish a significant reasonable suspicion, noting that "the danger posed by him is self-evident."
