Suspect Arrested in Poisoning of Baby Food Jars
Police have identified and arrested the suspect in the "Prinuk" baby food poisoning case. Yan Shamla, a man in his 40s from southern Israel, is suspected of intentionally poisoning infant formula, using poison to endanger lives, theft, and negligent handling of medications. His arrest followed a breakthrough in the investigation, which began approximately two and a half months ago after initial reports by Kan News.
Court documents reveal Shamla has a psychiatric history, with his defense attorney stating he suffers from bipolar disorder and has been hospitalized previously. Following his arrest, Shamla was evaluated at Eitanim Psychiatric Hospital and deemed fit for detention. His remand has been extended until Sunday as police continue their investigation, which includes examining additional poisoned jars and exploring the possibility of further endangered infants.
