Suspect Identified in 'Prinuk' Baby Formula Poisoning Case
The identity of the suspect in the poisoning of 'Prinuk' baby formula has been cleared for publication. Yan Shamla, a resident of southern Israel in his 40s, is suspected of intentionally poisoning infant formula with a toxic substance, endangering lives. Shamla is also accused of theft and negligent handling of medications.
Shamla was arrested and is at the center of a serious criminal investigation that has gripped the nation. Authorities allege he used poison with the intent to endanger human life, in addition to other offenses including theft and mish-handling of pharmaceuticals.
During a court hearing, Shamla's defense attorney claimed his client suffers from bipolar disorder. Following this, Shamla was referred for a psychiatric evaluation to assess his mental state. The evaluation concluded that he is fit to stand trial.
Given the findings and the severity of the charges, the court extended Shamla's detention until Sunday. Investigators are continuing to conduct necessary actions to complete the investigation into the case.
