Iran Says Lebanon Was Part of Any End to the Fighting

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tuesday that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States includes ending the fighting across all fronts, especially in Lebanon. He said the formal start of the agreement is expected on Friday, but that the declaration of an end to the war already took effect on Monday, once the two sides completed their understandings.

Araghchi called this “perhaps the most important issue” in the memorandum, describing it as an immediate and permanent end to the war in all arenas, including Lebanon. He said Tehran sees a direct link between the Lebanese front and the confrontation with Iran.

According to Araghchi, “because of the connection created between the war in Lebanon and the aggression of the Zionist regime in southern Lebanon, and the war with Iran, and because these two fronts became linked and somewhat dependent on each other, from the first day the Islamic Republic of Iran saw ending the war in Lebanon as one of the necessary conditions for ending the war with Iran.”

He added that when Iran announced the ceasefire, it did so across all fronts, with special emphasis on Lebanon. Araghchi concluded, “And now, as we have reached the end of the war, the end of the war will also be in Lebanon.”
