Brussels Airlines Staff Threaten Strike Over Mandatory Tel Aviv Flights

Staff at Brussels Airlines are threatening to strike over the company's decision to mandate flights to Tel Aviv, a route previously operated on a voluntary basis. The ACV Puls union has filed a strike notice specifically targeting flights to Israel, demanding that employees be allowed to refuse assignments to Tel Aviv without penalty to their pay or professional standing.

The union claims the new policy violates prior agreements and that the company is forcing staff onto the route because volunteer numbers were insufficient. Union representative Yolinde Defieu cited concerns among crew members regarding personal safety and the potential psychological impact of flying to Israel, especially in light of the Belgian Foreign Ministry's travel advisory recommending against non-essential travel to Israel and Jerusalem due to the security situation.

Brussels Airlines, however, rejects these claims, stating that the flights have resumed successfully and are operating according to safety protocols. The company asserts that the use of volunteers was a temporary measure for the initial period after resuming the route, and normal scheduling can now be reinstated. They are monitoring the situation in Israel and may adjust operations accordingly.

If the strike proceeds, it will be limited to flights to Tel Aviv, with other company destinations expected to operate as usual.
