Gal Gadot Explains Wonder Woman Departure, Cites Henry Cavill's Treatment

Gal Gadot has revealed her reasons for moving on from the Wonder Woman role, citing concerns over how DC Studios handled other actors' departures. While DC initially expressed interest in developing a third Wonder Woman film with her, Gadot felt hesitant after witnessing the "ungraceful" handling of Henry Cavill's exit from the Superman role.

In an interview on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Gadot explained that DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran had indicated a desire to work with her on a third installment. However, she observed how "they treated everyone else," specifically mentioning Cavill's situation and the subsequent cancellation of his return as Superman in favor of Gunn's new film. Gadot also noted that director Patty Jenkins, who helmed the previous Wonder Woman films, was not treated elegantly regarding the shelving of the third movie project.

Despite the circumstances, Gadot expressed gratitude for her time as Wonder Woman, calling it the role that launched her Hollywood career. She stated, "I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to lock those boots, and that the character received so much love and recognition, and that I got to be her vessel at that moment." She wished the next actress to play the role well, emphasizing the character's importance and the need to embody her with love and light.

Gadot also discussed her reservations about artificial intelligence in filmmaking, particularly concerning her new movie "The Runner." She detailed the extensive legal review of AI's role in the production, ensuring it did not impact her performance. Gadot acknowledged the inevitability of AI in the industry, stating, "The train has left the station. Either you work with it or you stay completely out of the game." She described the filming process, which heavily utilized AI for sets and lighting in a largely empty studio, as a unique and intense experience, comparing it to pure artistic creation.
