Haaretz Journalist Slams Prime Minister's Wife as 'Truly Vile'

Nir Gontarz, a journalist for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, sharply criticized Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Tuesday. Gontarz's remarks were in response to statements made by Sara Netanyahu about former IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Golan.

Gontarz, who stated that Golan helped save his son on October 7th, described Netanyahu's comments as a "vile act" and urged Golan to pursue legal action against her. "I always had a degree of pity for her, but I saw the clip in question, and it is a vile act. She is truly vile. Forgive me," Gontarz said.

He expressed concern that the public might lend credibility to Netanyahu's statements due to her position as the Prime Minister's wife. "Even if she is mentally unwell, when it's slander, what do you do? What do you do? The public thinks to themselves that as the Prime Minister's wife, she surely knows what she's talking about, she's in contact with security chiefs, she hears her husband's conversations, and therefore it gains added weight," Gontarz explained.

Gontarz warned that the public might believe Netanyahu's words and called on Yair Golan to respond legally. While generally opposing defamation lawsuits by journalists and politicians, Gontarz believes Golan should sue Netanyahu. "I am generally against defamation lawsuits by journalists and politicians. I think Yair Golan should sue this woman. He needs to go all the way," he stated.
