West Bank Apartment Sales Double Amid Unprecedented Construction Boom
Apartment sales in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) have doubled in the first half of 2026 compared to the entirety of 2025, with 534 new deals closed. If this pace continues, the region could see approximately 1,068 transactions by year's end, a 136% increase. This surge is occurring against a backdrop of significant government initiatives and unprecedented settlement expansion.
A May 2026 report by Peace Now and Kerem Navot highlighted the rapid growth between 2023 and 2025, noting the establishment of 185 new outposts, advancement of plans for over 40,000 housing units, and the extension of Israeli urban renewal laws to settlements. The report characterizes these actions as an accelerated de facto annexation of the West Bank.
The construction landscape is also shifting, moving from a model of private villas and single-family homes towards denser, multi-unit projects. In 2016, low-rise structures constituted 44.1% of active construction, but by March 2026, this figure dropped to 31.2%. Conversely, buildings of three to six stories now represent 47.1% of active construction, up from 25.2% a decade prior. The number of housing units under active construction reached 4,335 in the first quarter of 2026.
Ran Yanai, CEO of C.P Building Company, stated that the sales increase reflects the region's potential and the public's recognition of its advantages, including quality of life and economic benefits. He also noted a change in buyer demographics, with young families increasingly choosing the area due to its strong community and high quality of life, beyond traditional ideological motivations.
However, the construction boom has a significant impact on the Palestinian population. The same report indicates that 118 Palestinian Bedouin communities were displaced between 2023 and 2025, and demolitions of Palestinian structures in Area C increased by approximately 80%.
