Former MK Meir Cohen Steps Down from Yesh Atid List

Former Knesset Member and Minister Meir Cohen announced he will not run on the Yesh Atid party list in the upcoming elections. Cohen, who has been with the party since its inception, stated he is making way for the next generation of party members. He cited his extensive career, including 25 years in education and 23 years in politics as mayor and twice as Minister of Welfare, as reasons for his decision.

Despite stepping down from the electoral list, Cohen will remain active within Yesh Atid. He is set to be appointed Chairman and President of the party's conference. Cohen expressed his continued belief in the party's values and its leadership, stating he will keep working to ensure Yesh Atid, headed by Yair Lapid, leads Israel.

Yair Lapid, chairman of Yesh Atid, confirmed Cohen's decision, noting he had asked Cohen to take a high position on the list. Lapid described Cohen as a close associate and a foundational figure in the party, emphasizing that this is not a farewell. Lapid stated Cohen will continue to be a central pillar and key figure within Yesh Atid.
