Yesh Atid MK Meir Cohen Steps Down from Knesset Race, Takes New Party Role
Member of Knesset Meir Cohen of the Yesh Atid party announced on Tuesday that he will not run for the Knesset in the upcoming elections. Instead, Cohen will be appointed as the chairman and president of the Yesh Atid party conference.
Cohen, who has been a member of Yesh Atid since its inception, stated, "Yair and I founded Yesh Atid together, and I have been a member since its first day." He added, "After 25 years in the education system and 23 years in politics, I am happily and proudly making way for the next generation."
Opposition leader Yair Lapid, chairman of Yesh Atid, commented on Cohen's decision, saying, "This is not a farewell. He has always been and will always be the closest person to me in Yesh Atid, and will continue to be one of the pillars and central figures in the party."
