Jerusalem's Neve Yaakov Neighborhood Embarks on Major Urban Renewal Project

A significant urban renewal project has officially commenced in Jerusalem's Neve Yaakov neighborhood with the demolition of an existing complex. The "Meshanot Shir" project, a joint venture by Trа Real Estate and Rotstein Urban Renewal, will replace 111 existing apartments with over 500 new housing units. This initiative is described as one of the largest urban renewal projects in Jerusalem and the most substantial to launch in the city's Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) neighborhoods.

The demolition follows an extensive process of negotiation with the original apartment owners, community rabbis, and professionals, ensuring that the unique characteristics and needs of the neighborhood were addressed. The new complex will include seven kindergartens, two synagogues, a commercial strip, and enhanced public spaces, aiming to improve the living conditions for both existing residents and newcomers.

Original residents will receive upgraded, larger apartments featuring safe rooms (mamad), balconies, private parking, and storage units. The overall renewal includes new public and community institutions, commercial areas, and improved infrastructure, creating a more modern, secure, and accessible living environment.

The project's location near the Jerusalem Light Rail line offers convenient access to employment, commerce, and services throughout the city. Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion highlighted the project as a symbol of new beginnings and social justice, providing safe homes and better quality of life while enabling younger generations to remain in the city. Representatives from Trа Real Estate and Rotstein expressed their commitment to listening to residents' needs and advancing complex urban renewal projects in established neighborhoods.
