Spain Accuses Russia, Israel of Spreading False Migrant Crisis Information

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez claimed on Monday that both Russia and Israel promoted false information related to the mass entry of migrants into Ceuta last month. Sánchez accused the two countries of exploiting the migration crisis to criticize the Spanish government, citing ongoing disputes with Madrid over its stances on the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

According to Sánchez, his assertion is based on research from the European Union's External Action Service (EEAS). "After the events that occurred on July 30 and 31, there was a wave of rumors and disinformation spread on social networks, from accounts linked to Russia and Israel," he stated. "These countries spread and amplified disinformation related to the mass entry of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta last month."

Sánchez further noted, "It is clear that Israel and Russia exploited the crisis to attack us, as they were in dispute with Madrid over our positions in the wars. The far-right around the world uses the issue of migration not only to attack Spain but also to harm and divide Europe."
