Two Young Siblings Hospitalized After Ingesting Cannabis Candies

Two siblings, aged 3 and 5, were rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center experiencing dizziness, confusion, blurred vision, and unsteadiness after consuming cannabis-infused candies containing THC and CBD. Medical staff determined that each child ate two candies, with the packaging indicating each contained 20 mg of THC and 10 mg of CBD. Dr. Amir Fisher, a senior physician in the pediatric emergency department, stated that the children suffered particularly severe poisoning due to the 3-year-old's low weight, warning that further consumption could have been life-threatening. He explained that the poisoning symptoms affect the central nervous system, causing blurred vision, unsteady gait, and heart rate changes, with rarer effects including seizures or respiratory depression. As there is no antidote, treatment is primarily supportive. The children were transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit under the care of Dr. Jacques Brown, and were released in good condition after 24 hours. Following the incident, Talia Chernosvitov, deputy head nurse in the pediatric emergency department, urged parents to exercise extreme caution, emphasizing that children's curiosity can lead them to mistake dangerous products for harmless sweets and advising parents to supervise children and keep potentially harmful substances out of reach.
