Supreme Court President Urges Shin Bet Chief to Drop Bid to Expose Petitioners

Supreme Court President Isaac Amit has asked Shin Bet chief David Zini to reconsider his demand to reveal the identities of former agency members who petitioned against his appointment. During a hearing on Thursday, Amit suggested Zini might benefit from dropping the request, stating, "The head of the service would do well to reconsider his position, I am not sure it does him any good."

The hearing addressed a contempt of court petition filed because the former Shin Bet officials have not complied with the Supreme Court's ruling ordering the disclosure of their names. Zini had requested the court to reveal the identities of the petitioners after his appointment as Shin Bet chief was finalized.

Previously, 180 former Shin Bet employees had filed petitions challenging Zini's appointment. However, their petitions were ultimately rejected, and Zini was appointed to lead the agency. Following the court's decision to dismiss their petitions, the Supreme Court granted Zini's subsequent request to publish the names of those who had opposed his appointment.
