Beitar Jerusalem Suffers Fastest Four-Goal Collapse in 21st Century

Beitar Jerusalem experienced a historic collapse on Saturday, conceding four goals in just 24 minutes during their 4-1 loss to Maccabi Netanya. This rapid succession of goals marks the fastest four goals conceded by the club in the 21st century. The scoring spree began in the 52nd minute with a goal from Matheus Davo, who went on to complete a hat-trick by the 71st minute. Maor Levy added the fourth goal in the 76th minute, sealing Beitar's defeat.

While conceding four goals in such a short span is rare, it is not unprecedented in the Israeli Premier League. Notably, Maccabi Netanya themselves achieved a similar feat last season, scoring four goals in 23 minutes against Hapoel Hadera. In the 2022-23 season, Maccabi Tel Aviv scored four goals in just eight minutes against Hadera. Beitar Jerusalem has also been involved in rapid scoring, netting four goals in 10 minutes in a match earlier this season. However, this is the first time in the 21st century that Beitar has conceded four goals within a 24-minute period.

The match saw significant tactical shifts, with Beitar's coach making multiple substitutions in an attempt to alter the game's momentum. Despite holding possession for the majority of the second half and completing significantly more passes than Netanya, Beitar's midfield pressure was ineffective. Netanya, despite committing more fouls and having less possession, capitalized on Beitar's defensive vulnerabilities, with their quick players exploiting the space between Beitar's defenders. The team's strategy, which involved pushing many players into Netanya's half, left them exposed to counter-attacks.
