Israeli Police Consider Investigation Into MK Tzvi Sukkot Over Vandalism of Terrorist Memorial in West Bank

Israeli law enforcement is examining whether to open a criminal investigation against Member of Knesset Tzvi Sukkot and his aides following an incident in which they were filmed smashing a memorial honoring terrorists in the village of Madama in the West Bank. The event, which occurred last week under the protection of IDF and Border Police forces, was recorded and shared on social media, prompting a strong response from the military and political leadership.

According to reports from Channel 13 News, the police are expected to formulate an opinion on the matter and submit it to the Attorney General's office, which will decide on any further legal action. The IDF stated that the participants acted contrary to the approved guidelines for the tour and that the destruction of the memorials was unauthorized. There is also an ongoing legal review regarding whether the true purpose of the tour was properly disclosed to the military.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the act, emphasizing that the IDF is the sovereign authority in Judea and Samaria and that taking the law into one’s own hands, especially by public officials, is unacceptable and undermines the military’s security mission. No formal investigation has yet been opened, but the case remains under preliminary review by enforcement and legal authorities.

The memorial, known as the "Martyrs' Monument," commemorates Yaman Faraj, commander of the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades (the military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine), who was killed in 2004, alongside other terrorists responsible for deadly attacks against Israelis. Following the incident, Sukkot’s party, Religious Zionism, defended the action, calling for the demolition of similar terrorist memorials throughout the West Bank exclusively by the IDF, and criticized left-wing opposition leaders for condemning Sukkot rather than terrorism itself.
