Israeli Opposition Considers Potential Merger Between Gadi Eizenkot and Bennett-Lapid Parties

The Israeli opposition bloc known as the Change Camp is actively exploring the possibility of a merger between Gadi Eizenkot's party and the 'Together' party led by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid. This potential alliance aims to secure the status of the largest party in the upcoming elections and create a significant lead over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party. The merger could also prevent Avigdor Lieberman, whose party holds about ten seats, from demanding the prime ministership.

Daily polls are being conducted within the bloc to assess whether the joint list would increase their total number of Knesset seats. While the merger could produce a combined list of approximately 37 seats, concerns remain about possible voter loss for Eizenkot due to the inclusion of Lapid and other figures, recalling the previous Bennett-Lapid alliance that led to a decline in their polling.

Despite these considerations, the likelihood of the merger happening remains low at this stage, though the option continues to be evaluated regularly. In a recent interview, Naftali Bennett emphasized Eizenkot's expected significant role in the next government and expressed confidence in their ability to collaborate effectively despite occasional disagreements.
