US Official Urges Global Governments to Act Against Rising Antisemitism Ahead of Jewish Holidays

A senior US State Department official told Walla on Thursday that the United States is urging governments worldwide to take decisive action to protect Jewish communities amid a global rise in antisemitism and concerns for Jewish safety ahead of the High Holidays. The official emphasized that "while the toxic hatred of antisemitism is increasing globally, the US continues to call on governments to act firmly to safeguard Jewish communities." Recently, antisemitic materials appeared at Columbia University, where Hamas supporters reportedly took over a building, prompting heightened concern.

In response, the State Department has instructed US diplomatic missions worldwide to engage with local governments to increase security around synagogues, Jewish institutions, and holiday events. The official also referenced a presidential executive order signed by Donald Trump early in his term, which mandates a US policy to combat antisemitism "resolutely" using all appropriate legal tools.

This call for action reflects growing international worries about antisemitic incidents and the need for protective measures as Jewish communities prepare for the upcoming religious observances.
