Israeli Basketball Premier League Releases Full 2026/27 Season Schedule Including Key Derbies
The Israeli Basketball Premier League has announced the full schedule for the 2026/27 season, which will begin on October 9, 2026, and conclude on May 2, 2027. The highly anticipated Tel Aviv derby between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv is set for the fourth round, taking place between October 30 and November 2 at the Menora Mivtachim Arena. Another major highlight is the first "Clasico" of the season between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem, coached by Sasha Obradovic, scheduled for the sixth round from November 13 to 16.
The season opener features several notable matchups, including Hapoel Holon hosting Hapoel Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv facing Hapoel Galil Elyon. Newly promoted teams Hapoel Ironi Eilat and Maccabi Ashdod will make their returns to the top tier, playing against Maccabi Rishon LeZion and Ironi Nes Ziona respectively. The second Tel Aviv derby will occur in the 19th round, from March 12 to 15, 2027, at the Shlomo Group Arena.
In an effort to accommodate families and children, the league has reformed game times. Most matches will be held between 18:30 and 20:15, with the main game of each round starting at 20:55. Friday games will conclude at least three hours before the start of Shabbat. League chairman Ari Steinberg emphasized the importance of fans, stating, "The crowd is the heart of basketball. We wanted to listen to the fans and set times that allow families and children to attend the games. I wish us all an exciting and sportive season."
